2009 Heater Tests at Shawville

Hot heater. Previous fire 7 hrs.
White Birch, 20% moisture
Small pieces, big load, stacked front to back. Ignition from top.
15 pieces. 3.3 lbs kindling. 73.0 lbs total. Pieces larger than yesterday: 4.6 lbs vs. 3.2 lbs
Very staged burn. Clean start. Moderate overamping at 25 minutes
Moderate CO. Low PM. Compare with run HK-K33
Air control closed at 100 minutes. Data for calculation based on 100 minutes. Flue damper left open 1".

Animation, 2 minute intervals.

Note that time values are offset by 18 minutes.
Mild overamping at 50 minutes. Small wood, hot firebox. Note high stack temperature due to previous fire.
Also note, before start, when flue damper is opened, flue temperature jumps from 90F to 200F on standby.

Note that first peak is due to startup, with no corresponding CO peak. Second peak happens during overamping
(low oxgyen, 8.0%), and corresponds with the CO peak. After 52 minutes, opacity is zero. Actually, it dips
slightly below zero, which is characteristic. This may be because of the hotter gas at this stage of the burn.
