2010 Heater Fuel Crib Tests at Shawville

Test HK-L12
January 26/10

Series 3: Test #2 of a 2 test pair with matched cribs.
Cool heater. Fired 24 hours previously, but ashbox door and chimney damper left open by mistake.
Colorado M-4 (MHA Fueling Protocol) cribs spruce at 16.7% average moisture.
Loading factor 0.13 . Reload
3.75 lbs kindling + 18.8 lb crib (16.72 % av moisture, estimated) + reload w. 16.2 lb crib (16.72% av measured moisture).
Efficiency is calculated at 95% oxygen recovery (Colorado method).
Stack temperature corrected for height.
This test seems very close to the previous one. The colder start could account for the higher PM.

The batch of 2x4's used for the last 4 tests has been very variable in moisture, both piece to piece,
adjacent pieces cut out of the same stick, and particularly from the surface to the core. A more
detailed description of the matching technique used will follow. This is #1 of the third back-to-back test from the same
batch. Obtaining more uniform fuel will be the next task.

This test seems very close to the previous one. The colder start could account for the higher PM.
